In the arid hinterlands of Olmoran town, Chepondor — an illiterate Pokot woman — trudges through life as a second wife, enduring loss, hardship, and the weight of societal injustice in her patriarchal, nomadic community.
Her younger daughter, Cherot, is vibrant, ambitious, and fiercely intelligent. A visionary determined to chart her own course, she refuses to relive her mother’s fate.
Kakut, Chepondor’s husband and Cherot’s father, is the embodiment of the traditional Pokot man — deeply rooted in custom, unwavering in his reverence for culture, and stubbornly resistant to change. He is determined to see his wives and daughter bow to the will of the tribe.
But will Kakut embrace his daughter’s soaring ambitions, or crush them as dangerous delusions threatening their way of life? And what of Chepondor, caught between two forces hurtling toward an inevitable clash with destiny?
